Why Should You Care?

The proposed gondola by UDOT is estimated to cost anywhere from 550 million dollars to 1.5 billion dollars. UDOT plans to use tax dollars as the main source of funding for the Little Cottonwood Canyon gondola. The construction would take anywhere from five to ten years and is expected to impact the watershed within the canyon negatively. This watershed provides around 600,000 people with drinking water in Salt Lake County and we can’t afford to endanger that critical water source. The gondola plan was proposed as a way to save money, but it is expected to cost each person $25-$30- over twice as expensive as a $10.00 bus ticket up the canyon. Thus, this proposition only benefits the few who can afford it, rather than the majority of recreationists who would pay for it. The gondola is expected to benefit Snowbird and a handful of developers greatly should it pass.
