Climate Change Carnival

A Socially Engaged Art Event

The Climate Change Carnival is an event by the Art, Action & the Environment Class, taught by Wendy Wischer, Associate Professor of Sculpture Intermedia, at the University of Utah.

This event is designed to encourage solution-oriented dialogue among the University of Utah students to ensure that future generations are able to call our planet home. To shift the paradigm of climate-change conversations, the carnival uses humor, art, and fun in hopes of engaging the campus community on 3 main issues: Health, Waste, and Policy. With games like Emission Elimination, Wheel of Waste and Climate Policy Smackdown we hope to move the conversation from the debate stage and bring it forward as an event in a fun and involved way with a focus on those who might not normally participate in such a conversation.

This dedicated group of artists and activists, has spent the spring semester learning how to cross the line between art and social engagement. The event also collaborates with several groups on campus to utilize their specialties around these issues. The intention is to positively promote sustainable practices in our individual and collective lives while creating a fun and unique experience for all participants.
