What Do We Know?

60% of Utah’s income comes from tourism and Winter tourism is a huge piece of this industry. UDOT, Utah Department of Transportation, has proposed building the world’s largest gondola in Little Cottonwood Canyon, one of Utah’s infamous recreational areas. The gondola would cost anywhere from 500 million to 1.5 billion dollars – a burden that would fall on all taxpayers in Utah whether they plan to “Ride the Wire” or not. Moreover, the gondola would take years to construct, permanently alter Little Cottonwood Creek’s watershed, and create a massive eye sore. UDOT’s gondola proposition is riddled with flaws and is opposed by most Salt Lake City residents. In the face of heavy opposition, this project has been heavily promoted through Gondola Works and interest groups that stand to benefit financially from the increased development of the canyon.
